The employees at Maine Heritage Weavers know how to weave elegant cotton matelasse throws. Most of them worked for the legendary Bates Fabrics before the textile giant closed its doors. Many of them are 3rd or 4th generation textile mill workers, taught from their parents and grandparents their skilled craft.
Abigail Adams and Martha's Choice are two of the designs woven by Maine Heritage Weavers. Martha's Choice is a candlewick (also referred to as a chenille or terry) and Abigail Adams is a matelasse design. Coverlets are offered in Martha's Choice design and are finished with a pom-pom fringe. Matching shams are available.

Vintage Martha's Choice throw is manufactured at Maine Heritage Weavers in Lewiston, Maine. Also known as George Washington's Choice, Martha's Choice is still one of the most popular candlewick designs. Martha's Choice is also woven as bedspreads, shams and coverlets.
Many brides received a Martha or George Washington's Choice bedspread during the 1950s.
George chose the original of this design for his bride. The original weave, older than Christianity, was lost when textile machinery replaced skilled weavers. Bates Fabrics had recaptures this weaving art and former employees continue this tradition at Maine Heritage Weavers.
Available in white or antique, this design is also available in coverlet sizes with pom-pom fringe and bedspread sizes with string fringe. Fabric swatches are available. Blue/white and sage/whte colors will be offered in the spring.

Luxury throws made in the USA are uncommon. Terry loop, made in Maine cotton throws are very rare.
Maine Heritage Weavers in Lewiston, Maine is one of the very last American textile mills weaving candlewicks throws.
Martha's Choice is one of the oldest designs available and the only candlewick throw. Many brides during the 1950's and 1960's received Martha's Choice (also remembered as George Washington's Choice) bedspreads as wedding gifts. A coordinating throw is a wonderful anniversary or birthday present.
