Bates Fabrics style luxury throws including customer favorite styles Heritage and Martha Washington's Choice are woven at Maine Heritage Weavers on Jacquard Looms similar to looms used by the legendary Bates Fabrics. Both matelasse and candlewick throws, shams, bedspreads, coverlets are woven by former Bates employees.

Other popular vintage bedspread styles include Heritage, Abigail Adams and Queen Elizabeth.  Queen Elizabeth is an authentic reproduction of an original handwoven masterpiece dating back to the first Elizabethan Era before becoming popular in Colonial America. Elegant center medallion and flowers woven in an intricate "puffed" pattern give grace and clarity to this classic design.  It is woven in solid white and antique colors and two-tone colors include:  linen/antique, sage/antique, french blue/antique and wedgewood blue/white.

Heritage features a repeat pattern of circle and leaf design.  Heritage is also available in standard coverlet sizes with pom-pom fringe and throws with a choice of fringe.  Martha Washington's Choice, the most popular design, is a terry loop (chenille) design available in bedspread, throws and coverlets sizes.

Maine Heritage Weavers manufactures both matelasse and Chenille bedspreads, coverlets and throws with one hundred percent cotton. Maine Heritage Weavers bedspreads are woven on looms similar to those used by Bates Fabrics (which began in the same city by Benjamin Bates in 1850) and by former employees of Bates in one of the buildings that housed the Bates Manufacturing Company.

Martha Washington's Choice (also remembered as George Washington's Choice) continutes to be one of the most popular luxury hobnail (candlewick) type designs. This vintage woven candlewick design is available with string fringe or pom-pom fringe in either white or antique colors. New colors may be offered this summer for a limited time.

The original of this design was chosen by George Washington for his new bride. Although the original weave, older than Christianity, was lost when textile machinery replaced skilled weavers Bates Fabrics had recaptured this weaving art and former employees continue this tradition at Maine Heritage Weavers in Lewiston, Maine.
