Martha Washington's Choice (also remembered as George Washington's Choice) continues to be one of the most popular luxury candlewick type (terry loop) designs. This vintage woven design is available with string fringe or pom-pom fringe in either white or antique colors.
George Washington chose the original of this design for his bride. The original weave, older than Christianity, was lost when textile machinery replaced skilled weavers. Bates Fabrics had recaptures this weaving art and former employees continue this tradition at Maine Heritage Weavers in Lewiston, Maine.
Also available in custom sizes and fringes, Martha Washington's Choice is woven in 100% cotton. These easy to care for luxury woven throws are machine washable and will not shrink more than 3 percent due to the high quality of yarn used in manufacturing.
Free fabric swatches are offered to their customers. Maine Heritage Weavers also manufactures luxury bedspreads, coverlets and blankets at their textile plant in Lewiston, Maine on similar looms used by Bates over a hundred years ago.
